Welcome to the Wrexham Crimelink WebsiteWrexham Crimelink is a Business Crime Reduction Partnership Wrexham Crimelink will: • Reduce crime in and around the business environment. • Be cost effective. • Give businesses the ability to influence local crime reduction policy. • Reduce anti-social behaviour. • Assist in the apprehension and prosecution of offenders. • Reduce the fear of crime. The Facts about Business CrimeBusiness crime is a massive national problem: • Business crime costs £19 billion a year. • Crime costs retailers £2.24 billion a year. • Violent crime against retailers and their staff is increasing. • Up to 25 % of all recorded crime takes place in and around town centres. • Increasingly retail crime is carried out by professional thieves. Unless we tackle it, crime will threaten the trading environment and impact on profitability. Shops may close with less choice for customers. Businesses will suffer as customers go elsewhere. This would be bad for investment and employment and could result in a downward cycle of degeneration, as well as an increase in crime and the fear of crime. The effects of business crime also include the human costs of physical and verbal abuse against staff. This impacts on morale and confidence and can lead to increased absenteeism and difficulties in recruiting. Crime diverts management time from key responsibilities and is stressful for everyone. Crime and fear of crime have a significant negative impact on the quality and use of our town centres. This is why Wrexham has taken action across the County to ensure we remain competitive, safe and secure, for the businesses, their staff, their customers and visitors. >>Newsletter for Autumn 2007<< >>Newsletter for Spring 2008<< |
