Safe Child Scheme

  WREXHAM

SAFE CHILD SCHEME

ADVICE FOR STAFF AT RETAIL PREMISES.

The ‘Safe Child Scheme’ is being introduced at premises in Wrexham which participate in the ‘Crimelink’ radio scheme.

‘Safe Child’ is a national scheme which has been introduced in a number of towns and cities, and seeks to re-unite children with their carers if they become separated when shopping. Premises which participate in the scheme will have the above logo displayed in their window and at checkouts.

As part of the training and publicity under this scheme, young children will be instructed to look for a shop displaying the ‘Safe Child’ logo should they become lost, and to seek help from a member of staff. Similarly, parents or carers who become separated from children may report the matter to staff at ‘Safe Child’ participating premises.

Staff who receive a report of a lost or found child should complete the self- explanatory proforma which is issued to stores, and to ensure that CCTV and other ‘Crimelink’ members are informed of the incident via the Crimelink radio. They should follow the advice to staff contained in the leaflet in dealing with children, parents or carers.

Crimelink members have an important role to play in the success of the Safe Child scheme. The scheme, if implemented properly, will improve child safety and public reassurance in Wrexham. Staff at retail outlets in the town are asked to kindly familiarize themselves with the operation of the scheme.
